On September 17, 2018, Alive & Thrive and Data for Decisions to Expand Nutrition Transformation (DataDENT) organized a joint consultation with the WHO-UNICEF Technical Expert Advisory Group on Nutrition Monitoring (TEAM) which was hosted by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). The consultation aimed to consolidate insights from research and implementation efforts and facilitate dialogue that can help make progress towards the development of indicators to measure coverage of infant and young child feeding (IYCF) counselling or behaviour change interventions.

The consultation was expected to lead to the development of core survey questions to capture exposure to IYCF counselling interventions, guidance for an approach to design counselling coverage measures and summary of research needs. The results were reported back to the TEAM to develop operational guidance to support WHO Member States on measuring coverage of maternal, infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN) counselling or behaviour change interventions.
